FAQs

12U

What sort of equipment does my daughter need?  She will need her own glove, protective fielders mask, cleats and softball helmet.  Although not required to play, she may want bring her own bat that has been fit to her preference.  The team bag may not have quality bats.   Black softball pants with red socks and a red belt are required and can be purchased on your own.  Jerseys will be provided.  You will find that most players have an equipment bag to keep their stuff in, but this is not required.  It is also a good idea to have a decent water bottle as water will not be provided by the coaches.

What is the time commitment for this level? Generally we limit practices and games to Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the season.  There might be occasional practices scheduled by the coach other days during the week, but this is infrequent, and generally done due to rainy weather.  We try to start in April as weather permits, and the season goes through the end of July.

Are there a lot of tournaments at this level?  Tier 1 can expect to play in 4-5 weekend tournaments.  Tier 2 can expect to play in 1 weekend league tournament in July.

Does my daughter need to have a lot of experience to play at this level?  We want to encourage all girls interested in participating to sign up.  There will be evaluations to determine her level of experience, and she will be placed accordingly.  If she has very little experience, she will likely be  on the tier 2 team.

Are there tryouts?  We will hold evaluations in the spring before the season starts, and place girls on the team that is most appropriate for their skill level and development.

Britt Stroup Hitting and Pitching Camps

Community Education is offering softball camps this summer, designed to further develop skills in hitting and pitching. They have brought in a coach with impressive credentials, Britt Stroup. Britt was a Pitcher for the University of Minnesota during her college career. She then went on to be the Varsity Head Coach at Wayzata and Eden Prairie High Schools.

This program is not financially sponsored by ABBSBA, but we have collaborated to involve Britt in the Annandale Softball program and fully support bringing these camps to our youth.
